DescriptionThe program provides medical evaluation and examination of survivors of physical abuse and sexual abuse/assault * The on-call nurse will document any injuries, including bruising and take photographs of the injuries, if necessary, with the client's consent * safety planning is discussed and referral made to community agencies for shelter and counselling * the program is accessed through the Emergency Department at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance The Domestic Violence Program provides: Medical treatment and emotional support to the victim of domestic violence * Documentation of medical findings such as physical injuries * Photographic documentation of injuries in the event the victim chooses to take legal action * Risk assessment and safety planning * Referral to community agencies including the Women's Centre and counseling services * Follow-up by the domestic violence coordinator to help victims with any problems or concerns *The Sexual Assault Program provides:care and treatment to female, male and children of any age Medical treatment and emotional support for the victim of sexual assault * Collecting and recording evidence of the assault * The sexual assault evidence may be frozen for 6 months to give you time to decide if you want police involvement * Testing, information and counseling for possible pregnancy * Testing and treatment for sexually transmitted infections * Follow-up medical care and referral to community agencies * testing and treatment for HIV within 72 hours of assault is provided
