| Description | (Ontario Works) Employment and Social Services provides temporary income and employment supports to those in financial need. Our goal is to improve the quality of life for families and individuals, to provide opportunities for learning, growth and promote self-sufficiency. (Ontario Works) Employment and Social Services also offers programs to assist businesses, the local economy, community agencies and non-profit groups. These programs include: - Community Placement - volunteers are placed with non-profit organizations to gain valuable work skills to assist them in re-entering the work force - Employment Placement - provides financial assistance to employers to provide on the job and formal training for Ontario Works recipients. For a complete listing of all the employment supports available through Ontario Works, please refer to the web site. * The Rent Bank / Energy Bank The Rent Bank is intended to provide funding to individuals or families to avoid immediate eviction. The Municipality has received funds from the Provincial Government’s Homelessness Initiative Fund and the Rent Bank fund to administer to local residents. Funding to eligible recipients may be in the form of an interest free loan or grant. Eligibility criteria include: • Must be a resident of Chatham-Kent • Applicants are not in geared to income housing • Applicants must demonstrate that the affordability issue is temporary and that their accommodation costs are otherwise sustainable • The Homelessness Prevention Caseworker will complete an income/assets application to determine eligibility • Assistance may be provided for up to two months of rental arrears based on the Average Market Rent for this region The Energy Bank is intended to provide one time funding to individuals or families to avoid utility disconnections and/or to maintain utilities. The Municipality has received funds from the Provincial Government’s Homelessness Initiative Fund and the Emergency Energy Fund to administer to local residents. Funding to eligible recipients may be in the form of an interest free loan or grant. Eligibility criteria include: • Must be a resident of Chatham-Kent • Applicants are not already in receipt of social assistance or geared to income housing • Applicants must demonstrate that the affordability issue is temporary and that their accommodation costs are otherwise sustainable • The Homelessness Prevention Caseworker will complete an income/assets application to determine eligibility • Assistance can be provided for up to two months arrears • Assistance is intended to be a one time provision Additional rules may apply.
