DescriptionPublic Health Unit, in partnership with community groups, focus on the health and well-being of the whole community, promoting health, preventing disease, prolonging life and improving the quality of life * For information on the programs listed below, or access to other health information, including education, counselling and recommendations to appropriate community resources contact Public Health * Infant Health Services - Healthy Babies, Healthy Children; Breastfeeding support, Postpartum Mood Disorder support group, As Parent & Baby Grows, Well-baby clinics, 18month clinics, hospital liaison, Best Start, several programs and services from birth to 18 months old* Child & Youth -dental services, CINOT, student nutrition program, preschool screening including NutriStep, heart health, physical activity, healthy weights, health eating, smoking, UV radiation, alcohol and substance misuse, road safety, healthy family dynamics. Adult Health - Smoking cessation, Tobacco enforcement, flu, reproductive health, parenting, healthy family dynamics, heart health, physical activity, healthy weights, health eating, smoking, UV radiation, alcohol and substance misuse, road safety. *Environmental Health Program: Health Hazard Investigation-Emergency Response, Complaint/Cluster Investigation, Air Quality (indoor and outdoor) * Food Safety-Inspections, Food Safety Education, Food Recall, Complaints/Investigation and Food Poisoning * Rabies Control-Animal bite investigation, Ensure post exposure anti-rabies treatment, Raccoon rabies contingency plan, Education * Infectious diseases, control of TB *Safe Water- Deal with all adverse drinking water report, Provide information/consultation with respect to health related parameter and potential health if adverse sample, Beach Water Testing

Clinic Services: Sexual Health-Clinic Services, Sexual Health Educational Programs * HIghschool Liason nurses and school based health education,* STD/HIV/AIDS-Clinic Screening/Treatment Programs, Preventative Education Programs * Communicable Disease Program: TB, Vaccine Preventable Disease-Clinic Services, IRIS Program, Vaccine Education Program, Cold Chain Inspection, Hep B Program, Travel Health Program, Flu Campaign, Sexually Transmitted Disease including HIV/AIDS-STD contact identification and notification * 
 
As of Jan 1/09 The Children in Need of Treatment (CINOT) program was expanded to reach children up to age of 18. It also provides out-of-hospital anesthetic coverage of children age 5 - 17. It provides access to dental care for vulnerable children, youth and teenagers including dental care services such as: fillings, scaling, extractions, sedation and preventative dental care. 
 
Birth Control Clinic and Health EWducation Centre provides information and counselling for birth control, personal responsibility, sexual health topics ie. raising sexually healthy children; parenting programs * Provide: birth control advice, free pregnancy testing with counselling, human sexuality information, STD testing and treatment, free and confidential
