Description & Services
DescriptionThe Sydenham Field Naturalists have been keenly involved in natural heritage education, conservation and restoration in the Chatham-Kent and South Lambton areas since 1985. Long-term projects and activities including hosting the Christmas Bird Count (Wallaceburg and Walpole area); maintaining a successful bluebird trail; offering exciting field trips; hosting educational and entertaining indoor meetings with expert guest speakers; tallgrass prairie restoration and reintroduction projects; and an annual banquet with a special guest speaker.

There are many wonderful nature-viewing opportunities in the Wallaceburg area, in some fo the rarest ecosystems in Ontario. The Lake St. Clair region is one of the most important staging sites for migratory waterfowl in North America and the tallgrass prairies of Walpole Island are some of the best examples remaining anywhere. Rondeau Provincial Park on Lake Erie is a migratory songbird magnet. The SFN recognizes the importance of these wonderful habitats and works to represent naturalists’ views and concerns about conservation and restoration in this marvelous region. All SFN trips and meetings are open to the public and we offer a warm welcome to anyone interested in joining us.
