Public Comments Every minute of every day, someone in Canada needs blood and often from more than one generous blood donor. You could make the difference. Why should I think about donating blood? When you donate blood, you save lives. It’s that simple. Your donation can treat cancer patients; bring a car accident victim through surgery, even help a transplant patient’s new heart beat for the first time. Most blood donations are used within days. When sickness, or tragedy strikes many people feel helpless and do not know what they can do to support a loved one and their family members. Donating blood is one of the most direct ways to help someone in need.
