Description (Service) Local Ministry of Labour office oversees the Employment Standards Act and Occupational Health and Safety Act and related regulations for construction projects and industrial establishments 
* establishes vacation pay and paid public holidays 
* requires equal pay for equal work, prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex, age, or marital status 
* institutes entitlement to pregnancy and parental leave and forbids lie detector testing 
* offers information on the family and extended family medical leave 
* obliges employers to provide severance pay to terminated employees when applicable 
* permits retail store workers to refuse work on Sunday and public holidays under particular circumstances 
* protects the rights of domestic workers and homeworkers 
* paid public holidays include New Year's Day, Good Friday, Victoria Day, Canada Day, Labour Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, Boxing Day 
* the Ministry sets out the maximum number of hours that can be worked in a day or week, terms for temporary layoff  
* offers information pertaining to Minimum Wage
